Originally started as an Instagram account, La Lune has now grown into a truly special place, where together, we can explore all things divination, astrology, witchcraft, and so much more.
My name is Taylor. I was born, and lived in, Australia until I was 24, where I went to school, worked, and even graduated from 2 University degrees. I started a PhD, but decided half-way through that it wasn’t for me, and at the same time, met and fell in love with someone who lived half-way across the world (kind of funny, isn’t it?). There were a few months where I had some pretty big decisions to make, but ultimately decided to quit my PhD and move to Europe. Which is where I am today.
During this time, I was also grappling with a newfound view of the world after re-discovering and seriosuly researching Paganism, Wicca, and witchcraft. I found myself appreciating the world in a different light; the seasons, the plants, and the constant of change. Additionally, I also discovered divination cards during my research, and instantly became obsessed. Collecting and using divination cards is my current favourite hobby and fixation, and is what inspired me create La Lune.
While the term cartomancy traditionally refers to divination using playing cards, it is commonly used to describe divination using any kind of cards. Popular divinatory cards include Tarot, Lenormand, and Oracle.
Cartomancy is often used for predicting the future, but it is not it’s only purpose – this is some outdated information folks. Card reading is an incredibly useful tool for:
Tarot is a system of cards and associated meanings, and there have been many original decks created throughout history – these include the Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) Tarot, Tarot de Marseille, and Grand Etteilla Tarot. Most decks available today take inspiration from an original tarot deck, in regard to its meaning, illustrations, or both. Therefore, most decks based off the same original deck will have similar meanings for each card. Most decks available today take inspiration from the RWS Tarot.
Lenormand is similar to tarot in that it is a system of cards and meanings, with original decks created throughout history. The first decks were created after the death of renowned fortune-teller Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand (1772-1843) in France and Germany, though the decks had little in common. Additionally, the German version took inspiration from earlier game and divination cards published across Europe. Most lenormand decks nowadays are modelled after the German Lenormand.
Oracle decks do not have an original deck that they take inspiration from, each one is unique. They each have their own system and meanings.
